Versailles school bans cellphones

Morgan County R-2 school administrators have decided to prohibit student use of cellphones during school hours.

The ban does allow students, however, to keep their phones in lockers, binders or backpacks as long as they are turned off.

Principal Travis Troyer said the school implemented the policy because students were distracted in class and not talking to one another.

Numerous parents have voiced their opinion with many applauding the move. However, others have questioned the wisdom of the decision, stating concerns that their child might not be able to reach them in an emergency or they might not be able to get in touch with the child. In response to that last concern, Principal Troyer reminded parents that they can always call the school office to relay a message to their child.
