Most of the people who left from Boone County to help in southeast Texas are now home.
Missouri Task Force 1 returned to Columbia a little before noon Wednesday.
The group rescued hundreds of people from floodwaters in the Houston area, and helped many others in Houston and a couple other cities affected by Hurricane Harvey.
“The people were certainly wonderful to us and certainly needed our help,” Task Force 1 leader Randy Sanders said. “People came up that knew about Missouri, and would thank us. On the way home they clapped. When we were driving by on the way home, [they] honked their horns. So the support was just phenomenal.”
A few members of the task force stayed behind to keep working. Two others have already been deployed to prepare for Hurricane Irma.
