Kelly Clarkson Picks ‘The Voice’ Over ‘Idol’

Kelly talks about her decision to choose being on “The Voice instead of returning to “American Idol”. It’s been 15 years since Kelly won the first season of American Idol. After an offer to return and sit in the judge’s chair, she told Entertainment Weekly why she opted for a coaching position on The Voice instead. She hinted at timing and said, “It’s a little too soon, because I was pregnant with my son when it ended and he’s only one.”

There’s also a deeper family connection to The Voice…”I want it to be a great experience for my whole family, and that’s what I have to think about at this point in my life,” she said. Another major factor could be: Clarkson’s husband and manager, Brandon Blackstock also manages Voice coach Blake Shelton, so she spends a lot of time on the Voice set with her four kids already.

Clarkson is currently prepping the release of her next album, Meaning of Life.
