Jefferson City Council votes against stormwater ballot initiative

There will be no vote this summer on a storm water fee for Jefferson City.

The council Monday night voted 5-4 against a bill that would have set an August vote on a new fee that would have boosted the city’s storm water budget from $360,000 a year to $2 million a year.

Public Works Director Matt Morasch says there are more than $30 million worth of projects that need to be done in the capital city. But officials had concerns voters had the stomach for another fee increase, after approving that big school issue in April.
