Jefferson City Council raises tobacco age to 21

If you want to buy cigarettes in Jefferson City, you now have to be at least 21 years old.

The council Monday night voted 6-4 to raise the age when you can buy tobacco in the city limits. The ban covers vaping supplies too.

It is not illegal to have tobacco if you’re between 18 and 20. You just can’t buy it at the capital.

Jefferson City is the 11th community in the state to become “Tobacco 21.” Columbia passed something similar in 2014.
