Ed Sheeran has the biggest album of 2017, with sales equivalents of his blockbuster release ÷ (divide) exceeding 2,764,000 units. Sheeran dominated Billboard’s recently released Year In Review, standing at No. 1 on 16 of their year-end charts including Top Artist of the Year and Hot 100 Song of the Year for “Shape Of You.”
Furthermore, ÷ is one of only two titles released in 2017 to surpass the 1 million mark in pure album sales, and the only album of the year to have two singles go to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This week, ÷ is back up to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 while the album’s latest single “Perfect” stands at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth consecutive week.
÷ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the biggest first week sales at the time of its March 2017 release, and remained in the chart’s top 10 for a staggering 39 weeks (including 20 consecutive weeks). “Shape Of You” – the album’s 7x-Platinum lead single – debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in January 2017, held the top spot for a remarkable 12 weeks, and remained in the top 10 for 33 consecutive weeks, the most ever in the chart’s 59-year history.
Sheeran will return for his first-ever North American stadium tour next summer, beginning on August 18th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and continue into November.
